We are currently doing a research project on James Cameron's new film Avatar. We need your help in completing this project.
In the mid-1990s James Cameron wrote an 80-age treatment for this film (see this Wikipedia article.) He called his treatment a "scriptment", and reportedly wrote it in two weeks. Production of the film was delayed for years for a number of reasons, including development of the technology needed for the computer generated characters.
When the film was reannounced, it was called "Project 880". Copies of the earlier 80-page Avatar scriptment, which had circulated on the internet for years, were quickly removed from the internet by the Cameron team. Thereafter (in early 2000) a new 114-page scriptment appeared which can be found on the internet in a number of places. The 152-page shooting script is also currently available on the net. (You can find both the 114-page scriptment and the shooting script rather easily via Google.)
Our project involves documenting the evolution of the Avatar film project. For this we need to obtain a copy of the earliest version of the scriptment, namely the 80-page version which was written in the mid-nineties.
Since this earliest version purportedly "circulated on the internet for years" it is extremely likely that somebody who reads this page will have saved a copy. If you have a copy of the 80-page scriptment and are willing to share it, please contact me at your convenience. My email is: TOMVEITCH@AOL.COM
Keep in mind, we already have copies of the 114-page version of the scriptment, as well as the 152-page shooting script. It is the early 80-page scriptment that we need for our project.
Any additional information about the genesis and development of the Avatar project will be deeply appreciated.
